Citrus Punch

The Wall Street Journal recently featured five citrus colored blazers in their Off Duty. (Here's the article: Fast Five: Citrus Punch).

I did some shopping and here are my faves:

Hooded capes, cowls, and scarves...

I always feel like a fairytale heroine when wearing a hood. :)
Plus, they keep the worst chill out.
I specifically love hooded scarves, like this Fair Isle-y one of Selena Gomez's:
(from Target)
I'm anticipating the official start of fall tomorrow!

love,

Oxfords

I've recently fallen in love with oxfords. So vintage. Don't know why it took me so long to jump on the bandwagon. :)

Taylor Swift  wears oxfords quite a lot, often paired with sweet sundresses. My favorites:

Here Taylor's wearing oxfords with heels, and a sunny Mod Cloth dress. Cuteness!

A sweet lace dress and cut-out, high heeled oxfords.

Stripes! This is the most unusual pairing, but I think the leather and yellow scarf brighten the otherwise black and gray outfit.

I've been shopping around online for a pair of my own. Since these are fashion shoes, I'm looking for a cheap version, just for a few wearings.

p.s. I'm starting to get into Fall fashion again, even though it's July. Anyone else looking forward to chilly days and hot herbal tea?

p.s.s. Also, please forgive my long absence. I have lots of posts planned for the next few weeks!

Maxi dresses

I just love maxi dresses... they're fun, feminine, and kinda old fashioned while modern at the same time! Plus extremely comfortable. :)

The orange one about is Diane von Furstenburg, $300 and found here.

...and how cool is this one? It has a hood! (Diane von Furstenburg, here)

I love Athleta dresses too.
(Found here. Check out all of their dresses here. )

I love JCrew summer dresses, too!
(I know this is a boring color, but I love their orange version! Found here. )

From Amazon.com I found some fun ones:

Rampage Juniors Floral Printed Maxi Dress, Black/Coral, MediumRampage Juniors Floral Printed Maxi Dress, Black/Coral, Medium

Testament Womens Maxi Stripe Dress, Orange, LargeTestament Womens Maxi Stripe Dress, Orange, Large

Obviously you'd need to wear a higher neckline under most of these... but you get the idea. :)

Trend: GREEN!

As you probably know, I love green. It was St Patricks Day yesterday. Therefore, a post dedicated to green.

(This Kate Spade dress looks a lot like my Christmas dress, doesn't it?)

FABULOUS FIND!!!

And Happy Valentine's day, too :)

Anyways, I'm really excited about this. I was shopping with my aunt (affectionately known just as "Auntie") and we found these three beautiful velvet ribbon barrettes--at the DOLLAR TREE!!!

There's a brown one, a black one, and a gorgeous blue one. I love velvet-- and I love barrettes. Speaking of which, barrettes are a major trend right now.

I love them. They make me think of Marcia Brady.

The 50's

Ah, the 50's.... I've loved this era ever since I saw my first episode of I Love Lucy. The rest is history.

Fashion-wise, I think it's my fave decade of the 20th century. Particularly, I love the circle skirts!
Most skirts nowadays are gathered at the waist to be full at the hem. I like circle skirts because there's no bulk at the waist, but it's very "swingy" at the hem.
Poodle skirts (you know, like that pink felt skirt with a poodle applique that your grandma made you in 2nd grade?) are almost always circle skirts.

I was very pleased to see Louis Vutton's Fall/Winter collection so 50's inspired.Yay!!! (reviewed here on Bramblewood Fashion).

Anyways, I'm thinking of making a plaid circle skirt some time... any thoughts?

Well, have a lovely evening :)

Here's a tutorial on how to draft a circle skirt based on measurements, if you sew. In fact, the whole web page is fascinating!

The fur trapper hat

For some reason, I really like the sort of  "rustic" look of the trapper hat. I live in a pretty temperate climate (we RARELY get snow that sticks :( ) so I'd probably only wear this warm hat once. However, if you live up north, then I have a feeling practicality and fashion would intersect.

Brown Fur hat with ears; Claire's, $24

Anyways, I was shopping the other day, and trapper hats were nearly in every store! Quite the trend, I guess.

Celine

p.s. That Claire's hat is really something... I confess, I would never be brave enough to wear a fur hat with EARS, no matter how cute and chic it was. Would you?

The wider-cut shirt: it has RETURNED!

Ya, I'm pretty happy about this one. For the past year or two, my shirt size has been usually a M or L. I'm actually more of a Small, but everything was cut so that it would be skin tight! Ugg.

But this Fall, tops are returning to a more "late 90's-2000's" cut: a bit flowy-er, so to speak... sort of skimming the body rather than clinging to it. It's more flattering, and definitely more modest!

There's also shirts that are cut A-line (like this one on Selena Gomez), and I really like that style too. The problem is, they're very unflattering on moi. :(
(A note on this pic: I was at a festival a month ago, and I saw THREE people wearing this exact shirt! I guess it's a fave. View Selena's collection here.)

Of course, while tops seem to be cut more modest lately, remember we're returning to the late 90's-early 2000's. The belly shirt is also, supposedly, coming back "in". ("NOOOOoooo!!!!!") Granted, all you have to do is wear a long tank top underneath .... but I personally HATE this trend. Ick!

So anyways.... have a nice day :)
